A weekend of firsts - 1
I fancied a takeaway on Satuday night. I fancied a specific type of food from a specific place. But by the time we sat down to order they seemed to have dropped off the delivery website - problems in the restaurant perhaps? Too busy?
Nevermind - we found another that we had been avoiding as they had previously delivered everything in black plastic containers which can't be recycled here. We know that the food is good there though so crossed our fingers and ordered and luckily the plastic, as it still was, is a colour that can be recycled and a design that is not only great for the food delivered but will get reused as much as we can before being recycled.
But we're about food here right? So lets get to it.
My first ramen - I'd always avoided this dish. It just looked like soapy water with bits in to me but I thought I'd try it after having cooked this style of dish with some left over roast pork using a recipe from Nigel Slaters Kitchen Diary 2.
The dish did not disappoint - beautifully presented considering it had travelled a few miles before reaching us. The broth was tasty, with well cooked slices of chicken, noodles and greens. I'll be having that again.I even tried to slurp the last few drops and bits of noodle that the spoon couldn't reach!
The hubby chose his usual Katsu Curry but the HOT version. Again the dish it was delivered in was well designed so that the chicken was not sitting in the sauce but you could pour over as much or as little as you wanted when it reached you. It was a bit spicy but still very tasty.
We also ordered the pulled pork gyoza (not seen that on the menu before) and nearly fought over the last one they were so good.
A winner on both counts, flavour and containers.
